Vampires play football too

Vampires play football too

There was a young vampire called Rad,

who had a famous dad, called Vlad.

After school, when Rad rushed home to play footie,

his dad had to watch from inside with his butty.

Vlad had to stay in the dark, out of the sun,

so he missed having lots of fun with his son.

To play for the school was Rad’s big dream,

so when he got onto the football team,

he rushed straight home to tell dad the news,

and ran so fast he nearly burnt his shoes.

The rooms were dim, dad’s face was all white,

with a smile so bright it gave Rad a fright.

That’s really great to hear, said his dad to Rad,

I’ll come watch you play, but I’ll be heftily clad.

Rad was so pleased that his dad would be there,

he practised hard all day, and everywhere.

Then on Saturday, just as he’d said,

there was Rad’s dad, dressed from toe to head.

Dressed all in black with shades, scarf and hat,

he missed none of the game, though he looked like a bat.

Vlad could be heard cheering his young son on,

who scored a late goal so that his team won.

So, next time you watch your kids play for school,

you just might see Vlad there, looking ever so cool.

He’s the dad that’s so proud he’s fit to burst,

he’s Rad’s dad Vlad, and he’s longer cursed.

Remember that vampires love watching their kids play football,

and they’ll do whatever it takes to be there for love conquers all.

This was written as part of a project I am involved in creating a new poetry web site for children. The site is based a train to ‘Scaryness’ with lots of different types of ‘scary’ poems for children. We didn’t have many on vampires so I wrote this, pinching the names from a couple of friends Ben has from Slovenia!
